  • Who are we?

Southwater Community Methodist Church worships in the Junior School main hall from 10am on Sunday mornings, and meets together for friendship, prayer and Bible study during the week. We are a young church, with evangelical Methodist roots, and a growing number of members of varying ages who are drawn from various church backgrounds or none at all.

Our vision is to grow further still into a community based family friendly church. We believe God has called us to be church where we live! We want to share the good news of God’s love for us right here in Southwater, worshipping here, serving local people to the best of our ability in Jesus’ name, and, wherever possible   working together in partnership with other Christians in the village. We are active participants in Let’s Go, transforming two gardens in two years at the Junior School , and we wanted to provide something for children other than on Sunday, so our new Kids Dance Club is the first step toward fulfilling this vision. We are also working with the URC and Anglican churches to help provide a full time youth worker for the village.

  • What would a Sunday meeting be like?

Well, first of all someone would probably say hi, and they might even ask who you are and all that stuff. We meet in a school hall so that should give you a clue that we are not very traditional! Our worship is more informal than formal, with music that tends to be more modern than traditional, and is we hope, accessible to all. No pews, nor organ, and no dusty hymn books - just chairs, guitars and a digital projector! We   are a small but friendly community so you will find a warm welcome whether you are already a Christian, or still seeking faith, or someone who has never yet walked through the door of a church! Come and see for yourself, and stay for a coffee and a chat!
  • What are our aims?

We exist to:  Support and care for our community and for each other
Celebrate God’s love in Jesus Christ
Make more followers of Jesus Christ
Challenge injustice
  • What happens weekly?

Sunday Club*:   Our children join us at the start and end of each service, but in between they have their own fun sessions in an adjacent classroom. Every 3rd Sunday they stay for family worship. We make this a special day and try to have a programme of various family oriented activities – trips to the seaside, picnics, walks, pub lunches, cinema and theatre outings etc.

Prayer Group:  1pm every Thursday in various members’ homes.

Created4dance*: Our kids dance club for years 4 – 6 meets every Friday in term time from 7 – 8.15 in the Village Hall.

  • Fortnightly Meetings:
Housegroup: We meet alternate Thursdays at 8pm in members’ homes to get to know each other better, to share what God has been doing in our lives and to talk through the things that matter to us. We read the Bible and pray together, and drink a lot of coffee!!

  • Who is in charge?

Our minister is Rev Kath Jones. Funded by and accountable to the local Dorking & Horsham Methodist Churches, she is also a qualified teacher, working part time (very!) as RS Course leader at Collyers 6th Form College in Horsham. She is passionately interested in young people, in helping people grasp the great joy of knowing Jesus, and admits to rather liking chocolate….. She is a member of the Methodist evangelical organisation Headway. Married to Iain, with two daughters, Kath works in partnership with a local leadership team in seeking to enable our church family to work out how to live, serve, and worship as Christians in today’s world.

Friday Kids Dance Club
for kids from SCMC
... and their friends

  •
What is the Friday Kids Dance Club?
created4dance
is a group of people who are interested in dance and movement, and who would like to offer an opportunity for fun, creative, dance related activities for our children and their friends.
  •
Who runs it?
The leaders are all members at the local Community Methodist Church *.
  •
When does it meet?
The club meets on Friday’s at the Village Hall from 7pm – 8.15pm .

  •
Who can come?
We hope that children from years 4 – 6 will be interested in joining the club, though at first we are limiting numbers to the children from the Church and their immediate friends – once we have been up and running for longer we intend to expand the number of children who can come along.
  •
How much does it cost?
We ask the children to bring subs of 50p each session. This covers a soft drink, a snack, and any materials used.
  •
What’s involved?
Each week we will have fun activities and refreshments, but the main focus will be on music, movement and dance, and linked creative arts. The children themselves will help decide what they would like to do, and, those who want to will get the opportunity to perform once or twice a term at the church and at other events.
